Boubaker Al-Yadib was arrested on January 26, 2010 in Guelmim (190 km south of Agadir). Though his arrest was formally for participating in an illegal demonstration, he was later accused of posting, on January 25, an announcement of a blogger strike for a "week of mourning for freedom of expression in Morocco."

On February 2, Al-Yadib was tried and sentenced to six months in prison and a fine of MAD 500 (approximately USD 62) for "degradation of state property", "threatening a public official" and "participation in an illegal demonstration". The defense plans to appeal the verdict.
