On Friday 16 October, 2009, the Egyptian blogger Demagh Mak and his brother were stopped in the Egyptian province of Tanta by a police officer named Mohamed El-Dahrawy, allegedly for an ID check.

While asking for IDs, the police officer, for no obvious reason, began to beat Mak on his back. When Mak asked the officer to treat him and his brother with more respect, the officer was joined by a group of around eight soldiers and informers, who proceeded to participate in the beating.

Mak and his brother were taken to the police station, but released on arrival. To date no explanation for the incident has been given.

According to Demagh Mak, this incident wasn't related to his blogging activities; such incidents happen every day in Egypt to normal citizens .
