A professor at Tripoli's medical school, and a prominent social media voice, Mr. al-Tunuly (@2011feb17) was abducted at gunpoint by unidentified armed men from his home on December 4, 2012

Mr. al-Tubuly was released the same day. It was later revealed that the kidnappers were members of the Supreme Security Committee, a security group operating under the authority of the Libyan Ministry of Interior.

The reasons behind the abduction remain unclear.
