Jabeur Mejri is a Tunisian netizen and professor who was arrested on March 5, 2012 for posting cartoons of the prophet "in the nude" on social networking sites. On March 28, he was sentenced with another netizen, Ghazi El Beji, to seven years in prison for "violation of morality, and disturbing public order." Mejri's conviction was widely criticized by human rights activists as a crackdown on free speech.
On June 25, Mejri lost an appeal. According to Al Arabiya, Mejri said he might consider taking to the appeal to the court of cassation, Tunisia's highest court.
