Julian Assange is the founder of Wikileaks, a not-for-profit media organisation whose goal is to bring important news and information to the public using an innovative, secure and anonymous way for sources to leak informatio since 2007. Since 2007, when the organisation was officially launched, WikiLeaks has worked to report on and publish important information. He also developed and adapted technologies to support these activities. The organization he founded bases their activities on a set of principles: the defence of freedom of speech and media publishing and the improvement of the common historical record.

In October 2010 Julian Assange won the Sam Adams Award for Integrity.

He has also been awarded the 2009 Amnesty International Media Award and the Economist Index on Censorship Award in 2008. The activities of his organization caused violent reactions to threaten his work and his life, after publishing 251,287 leaked United States embassy cables, 391,832 reports ('The Iraq War Logs'), documenting the war and occupation in Iraq, from 1st January 2004 to 31st December 2009 and a classified US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad -- including two Reuters news staff where two young children involved in the rescue were also seriously wounded, he has faced serious threats to his life, his reputation and his work.

Many U.S. based companies, including Paypal and Amazon, have canceled the provision of their services alleging violation of their Terms of Service. The information on his organization´s Website was unavailable for a long period of time because of massive Denial of Service attacks and a viced legal process to extradite him to Sweden on a case which leaves many questions unanswered about a fair trial and due process.

Different communities around the World of Human Rights and digital activists, journalists and the person of the street who share the values the organization promotes are engaged in a campaign to collect funds, help solve the infrastructure problems and telling their political leaders that truth is not a crime.
