Mikael Nabil, also known by his blog pseudonym "Son of Ra," was arrested on 28 March 2011 for participating in anti-Mubarak protests during which he held a banner which read "Civil, not military or religious." On 30 March, he was transferred to a Military Court, and charged with "insulting the military institution, dissemination of false news and disturbing public security". On 9 April 2011 he was sentenced to three years in prison.
In addition to the main campaign website, there is a Facebook page calling for his release.
Nabil's appeal is ongoing; the next appeal is scheduled for 11 October 2011. He has been on hunger strike since 22 August.
Egypt Marshall Tantawi announced on 21 January that 1959 prisoners would be released on the anniversary of the January 25 Revolution. The announcement included a pardon of Nabil. Nabil has been released on Monday 23 January 2012.
