The blogger was arrested on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. He was charged with "possession of cannabis and drug trafficking." After 48 hours in custody, he appeared before the judges. On June 14, he was sentenced to 2 years and a 5000 dirhams ($500 USD) fine. The blogger Mohamed Sokrate is known for his controversial writings, targeting Islam and the Moroccan monarchy.
