Zheng was under house arrest in December 2004 after he had written articles on the Internet criticizing government. On 20 of September, 2005 he was charged with "inciting subversion of state power" in Liaolin court and sentenced to 7 year-imprisonment. He failed the appeal case in December 22, 2005.
