A friend reports that Monem expressed concern about his own safety, as well as that of his parents, who were being threatened daily through visits by the security forces. Monem told his friend that he was thinking of turning himself in to the authorities, but, on the advice of his lawyers, decided against this course of action as he did not know the exact nature of the charges being made against him.

Thus far, no official charges have been brought against Momen. His whereabouts are currently unknown and concerns for his well-being are mounting.

On July 13th 2010, after spending almost three years in jail, blogger Mosaad Abu Fajr has been released.
"field_arrest_value2":
On March, 02nd, 2009, Egyptian Facebook activist Rami El- Swaisi was abducted by plainclothes police officers, who attacked his home at 3:30am, shortly before the break of dawn and took Ramy toan unknown place since 2 days. He reported an incident of mob harassment of women, and broadcast several videos of police brutality. His actions led to the conviction of police for torture, but he has been harassed by the Egyptian government, and his accounts with YouTube and Yahoo were closed. YouTube has since restored his account and most of his videos. Facebook had deleted Wael's account but it has since been restored

In September 2007, his YouTube account was shut down. All the videos he had sent to YouTube were no longer available. They included videos of police brutality, voting irregularities and anti-government protests. About 12 or 13 were of violence in police stations. He was shocked by YouTube's decision.

Yahoo had shut down two of his email accounts, accusing him of being a spammer.

Human rights groups said that YouTube was shutting down a useful source of info on abuses in Egypt just as the government was increasing its crackdown on independent and opposition journalists. Twelve Egyptian journalists had been jailed between September and November 2007. Elijah Zarwan thinks that it was unlikely YouTube was reacting to official government pressure.

YouTube initially restored his account but not his videos, and said that his account was blocked because he failed to provide sufficient context about the violence. 187 of his videos were subsequently restored. Abbas has posted on his blog that Yahoo has restored his email account.

In November 2009, Egyptian blogger Wael Abbas has been sentenced in absentia to 6 months in jail, as a lawsuit was filed against him by a citizen and his police officer brother on charges of damaging an internet cable!. The appeal court canceled the sentence and acquitted Abbas on 18th February.

On 8 March 2010, Abbas received a letter from the court informing him that he has been sentenced 6 months in jail, of course, in absentia. Until publishing this post, there isn't much information on this case or the charges against him. I will update this post with more details once things are more clear.

Absent from his home at the time of the visit, Monem was informed of the intimidation and threats by his parents.
(More about Monem's case on his campaign blog)

After the first trial, the case was repeatedly delayed, mostly because of the State Security Service’s questions. Finally, the trial began on January 25, 2007. On February 22, Kareem was sentenced to three years in prison for defaming Islam and another year for defaming president Mubarak by judge Ayman al-Akazi. With this decision, Kareem Amer was the first Egyptian blogger to be jailed for his public writings. From the beginning of the case, Kareem has been supported by his friends of freekareem.org, who organized a petition, international media attention, and demonstrations in several cities all over the world. On November 9, 2007 rallies were held in a dozen cities on three continents to publicize the first anniversary of Kareem’s detention.
Kareem has been released on November 16, 2010 after spending 1471 days in prison.

The group Bassiouny created is named the Administration Of Military Recruitment And Mobilization, after the military authority responsible for receiving the new soldiers and orienting them. Good to note that the military service in Egypt is mandatory for men, they may be exempted or defer it in certain conditions and according to specific terms, but in all cases, every Egyptian male has to handle his status of military service through this administration.
The group includes information about prerequisites for military service, documents needed for recruitment, submission dates, deadlines and other formalities, all this information is available on the press and some of them are already online. Bassiouny was just making it easier to his peers to have everything in one page. The group has now approximately 1800 members. And he clearly stated that his group is ‘unofficial and voluntary’.
On November 30th, 2010, the military court sentenced Ahmad to 6 months imprisonment for broadcasting secrets of defense on Facebook.

Alaa Abd El Fattah was released on Tuesday June 20, 2006, after spending 45 days in jail. His wife Manal was quoted as saying in media reports (The Independent, UK): "There's no going back now, we'll definitely be continuing our activities."
